In the Line of Duty:
Army Art, 1965-2014
In the Line of Duty: Army Art, 1965–2014, presents art from the Vietnam War through the late twentieth to early twenty-first century to more recent operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. It depicts the U.S. Army in all its aspects. The soldier-artists represented here are from the Regular Army, Army Reserves, and National Guard. They continue a rich tradition of documenting the lives of American soldiers at war, in training, and in a variety of humanitarian missions. Artists’ statements enhance some of the paintings and describe the thoughts and feelings associated with the artists’ mission. The works included are a small sampling of the approximately sixteen thousand pieces of art that constitute the Army Art Collection at the U.S. Army Center of Military History.
